Les Cyclades

about

In 2000, for our honeymoon, my wife and I went island-hopping in the Greek Cycladic islands. On Santorini, then Paros and Naxos, we fell in love with these oases of beauty and charm. So much so, that we went back over the following two summers to discover and explore new islands - Amorgos, Rhodos, Folegandros. This song is my tribute to those idyllic days. I still dream of going back one day.

lyrics

Far, far, far away
There is an island
Where once we did stay
High up on the caldera
Of an ancient volcano

And far, further still yet
There is an island
I’ll never forget
That day when we climbed
Almost up to the sky

And still I smell the breeze
I still see the churches
The donkey’s ‘neath trees
The chora all white
And its shadows within

The boats rock in the harbour
The squid hung to dry
The Kouros still standing
Still contemplating
The cobalt blue sky
